Edward James Davis is an award-winning criminal defense attorney and partner at Kilts & Davis. He became a criminal defense lawyer to stand up for due process, the presumption of innocence, and the right to a fair trial.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Edward attended college and law school in Washington, D.C., earning degrees from Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service and The Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law.
Edward’s path toward becoming a criminal defense lawyer began while he was living in the nation’s capital, when he was selected by his peers to serve as the foreperson of a racially divided jury. The experience taught him the importance of carefully walking the jury through all the evidence and holding the government to its burden of proving every element of every charge beyond a reasonable doubt.
Before entering private practice, Edward worked with executives at the highest levels of state and local government. He began his career as a Special Assistant to the Governor of California and later served as Press Secretary to the Mayor of Los Angeles. This experience gives him valuable insight into how the government works—an important advantage when defending clients in the criminal justice system.
Today, Edward represents clients accused of serious and violent felonies, including sex crimes and complex juvenile matters. He is known for digging into the facts, challenging false allegations, and securing dismissals when charges are not supported by the evidence.
Prior to becoming a partner at Kilts & Davis, Edward practiced at one of the largest defense firms in California, where he was honored with the Excellence Award in Criminal Defense in recognition for his dedication to clients and his success in securing dismissals and charge reductions in major felony cases.
Edward is married to Marialena Anagnostou Davis, a Ph.D. scientist from Athens, Greece. They are the proud parents of Michael Davis.
